Harvard

  • Julien Berman

    CO-PRESIDENT

    Julien is a sophomore in Adams House planning to study Economics. Last semester, he was the lead for the project with the United States Environmental Protection Agency. He is particularly interested in education policy, especially the ways in which data analysis can be used to improve teaching methods. Julien also loves to play the violin and write short stories and poetry when he has free time.

  • Ben Workman

    CO-PRESIDENT

    Ben is a junior in Adams House studying economics. He is involved in housing-related economics research and is a co-captain of the Harvard Fed Challenge team. In his free time, Ben enjoys hiking, sailing, cooking, and reading.

  • Abhay Duggirala

    CO-DIRECTOR OF RESEARCH

    Abhay is a sophomore in Adams House studying Applied Math and Economics. He is interested in employment research and ESG reporting. He also loves watching movies, backpacking, and beinng a FOP leader.

  • Gabriel Sun

    CO-DIRECTOR OF RESEARCH

    Gabe is a junior in Cabot House studying Computer Science and Statistics (AB/AM). His research has explored issues in transportation economics, urban and development economics, and political economy. Gabe is also very interested in machine learning, including its applications to economics, and has recently been conducting research on transfer learning methodology. In his free time, he enjoys playing piano, reading, and speedcubing.

  • Sofia Cagliero

    DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS

    Sofia is a Junior in Cabot House from Milan, Italy, studying Applied Mathematics and Economics with a secondary in Statistics. Aside from being Director of Operations at CREL, she is the co-President of Harvard Ventures and is involved with research across entrepreneurship and political economics. Her interests span technology, innovation, political economy, and music. In her free time she enjoys playing the piano, reading, and watching reality TV with her roommates.

  • Johnathan Sun

    DIRECTOR OF FINANCE

    Johnathan is a sophomore in Kirkland House studying applied mathematics and economics. He's particularly interested in the economics of development and trade, and has worked in the economics department and the Law School. He is also a member of the Harvard Fed Challenge team. He's a keen pursuer of outdoor activities and enjoys debating, cooking, and playing the piano.

  • Henry Weiland

    DIRECTOR OF EXTERNAL COMMUNICATIONS

    Henry is a junior, a double concentrator in Economics and Math, and a proud resident of Mather House. Previously, Henry has conducted research into housing in the economics department, farmer agricultural debt at the Bank of Thailand, and served as an analyst on CREL’s Department of Commerce project. In his free time, Henry enjoys studying American and Thai history, running, and reading theology.

  • Matthew Andrews

    PROJECT LEAD

    Matthew is a junior in Eliot House studying Applied Mathematics and Economics with a secondary in Computer Science. He’s particularly interested in economic development and trade. Outside of CREL, he’s a course assistant for Linear Algebra and Big data, a Peer Advising Fellow and playing tennis and squash!

  • Himal Bamzai-Wokhlu

    PROJECT LEAD

    Himal is a first-year from Florida studying Statistics and Economics. Previously, she has worked on machine learning and natural-language processing research, and is interested in applying these methodologies to economics. In her free time, you can find Himal in a pilates class at the MAC or playing poker with friends!

  • Hannah Guan

    Hannah Guan

    PROJECT LEAD

    Hannah is a first-year from Texas studying Computer Science and Statistics. She has previously done research in the field of computational biology, and her economic interests lie in the realm of education and AI policy. In her free time, you can find her at Gong Cha grabbing a Lychee Oolong Tea (with no boba) and listening to Taylor Swift.

  • Rohan Nambiar

    PROJECT LEAD

    Rohan is a first-year from Cincinnati, Ohio planning to study Mathematics and Economics. Outside of CREL, he is involved in other economic research at Harvard and enjoys exploring new concepts in everything from finance to physics. In his free time, he enjoys baking, taking his dog for walks, listening to music, and playing board games.

  • Jaan Rothschild

    PROJECT LEAD

    Jaan is a first-year in Wigglesworth House studying Economics and Applied Math. He is specifically interested in the impacts of the semiconductor industries' globalization, and energy markets. In his free time, he enjoys reading, cooking, and playing rugby.

  • Shivant Krishnan

    PRESIDENT

    Shivant is a third-year at the University of Chicago studying economics and psychology. His interests include labor economics, consumer behavior, and experimental methods. He has previously worked as a research assistant in the Department of Economics, Booth School of Business, Brookings Institution, and ideas42. Apart from research, Shivant enjoys reading biographies, sports photography, and weight lifting.

  • Brayant De Leon

    DIRECTOR OF RESEARCH

    Brayant is a third-year at the University of Chicago studying applied math and economics. His past experiences include working for the Joint Initiative for Latin American Experimental Economics and Harris School of Public Policy. He is interested in game theory, field experiments, and the economics of education. Apart from research, Brayant enjoys rock climbing and going to metal concerts.

  • Utkarsh Dandanayak

    PROJECT LEAD

    Utkarsh is a third-year at the University of Chicago studying Economics. He is predominantly interested in experimental and development economics. His research experience includes research assistantships at the Development Innovation Lab, the Normal Lab, and the Becker Friedman Institute for Economics. He also enjoys reading, playing the drums, and watching sports.

  • Alex Gordon

    PROJECT LEAD

    Alex is a third year Math and Economics major at UChicago from the North Shore of Chicago. This quarter, he is leading a team in collaboration with the World Bank, to investigate the relationship between political rights, social rights, and economic outcomes. In his limited free time outside of economics, he enjoys playing guitar and badminton.

  • Aleksandr Popov

    PROJECT LEAD

    Aleksandr is a second-year at the University of Chicago studying Economics and Mathematics, with a minor in Computer Science. His past experiences range from algorithmic trading research to founding his own startup. His research interests include development economics and monetary policy. Outside of CREL, Aleksandr enjoys mountain climbing, playing the classical guitar, and debating geopolitics.

  • Anthony Chu

    PRESIDENT

    Anthony Chu is a junior at Stanford studying Economics and Computer Science. In the past, he has been involved in NLP and Computer Vision research. In his free time, Anthony enjoys skiing, rock climbing, playing tennis and watching Formula One.
