Julien Berman
CO-PRESIDENT
Julien is a junior in Adams House concentrating in Economics. Previously, he was the lead for the project with the United States Environmental Protection Agency. He is particularly interested in education policy, especially the ways in which data analysis can be used to improve teaching methods. Julien also loves to play the violin, and he is currently working on writing a novel.

Abhay Duggirala
CO-PRESIDENT
Abhay is a junior in Adams House studying Applied Math and Economics. He is interested in employment research and ESG reporting. He also loves watching movies, backpacking, and leading FOP trips.

Matthew Andrews
CO-DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS
Matthew is a senior in Eliot House studying Applied Mathematics and Economics with a secondary in Computer Science. He’s particularly interested in economic development and trade. Outside of CREL, he’s a course assistant for Linear Algebra and Big Data and a Peer Advising Fellow, and he loves playing tennis and squash.

Sofia Cagliero
CO-DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS
Sofia is a senior in Cabot House from Milan, Italy, studying Applied Mathematics and Economics with a secondary in Statistics. Outside of CREL, she is also co-president of Harvard Ventures and is involved with research across entrepreneurship and political economics. Her interests span technology, innovation, political economy, and music. In her free time she enjoys playing the piano, reading, and watching reality TV with her roommates.

Himal Bamzai-Wokhlu
CO-DIRECTOR OF RESEARCH
Himal is a sophomore from Florida studying Statistics and Economics. Previously, she has worked on machine learning and natural-language processing research, and she is interested in applying these methodologies to economics. In her free time, you can find Himal in a pilates class at the MAC or playing poker with friends.

Hannah Guan

Hannah is a sophomore from Texas studying Computer Science and Statistics. She has previously conducted research in the field of computational biology, and her economic interests lie in the realm of education and AI policy. In her free time, you can find her at Gong Cha grabbing a Lychee Oolong Tea (with no boba) and listening to Taylor Swift.

Rohan Nambiar

Rohan is a sophomore from Cincinnati, Ohio planning to study Mathematics and Economics. Outside of CREL, he is involved in other economic research at Harvard and enjoys exploring new concepts in everything from finance to physics. In his free time, he enjoys baking, taking his dog for walks, listening to music, and playing board games.

Jaan is a sophomore studying Applied Math and Economics. He is specifically interested in energy markets and he impact of the globalization of the semiconductor industry. In his free time, he enjoys reading, cooking, and playing rugby.

Satvik is a sophomore from New Jersey in Pforzheimer House. He studies Human Developmental & Regenerative Biology and is interested in the biology of aging, feature discovery, and quantitative tools. He enjoys running and calisthenics and is a huge fan of ping pong, spike ball, and coffee.

Shiloh is a junior in Winthrop House concentrating in Statistics and Economics with a citation in Spanish. She is particularly interested in the intersection between national security and international trade policy. In her free time, she enjoys reading fiction (especially Austen and Tolstoy) and solving crosswords.

Andrew is a senior in Currier from Athens, Georgia, studying Economics. He is interested in economic development, mobility, and the racial wealth gap. In his free time, you can find him reading, playing piano, playing IM sports, and watching college football.

Shivant Krishnan
CO-FOUNDER AND PRESIDENT
Shivant is a fourth-year and concurrent MA student in Economics at the University of Chicago, and a co-founder of the Chicago chapter of CREL. He has developed a strong research background through various roles in academia, consulting, and the public sector. His MA thesis will focus on the recent quality shift in US job applicants as a result of artificial intelligence and the softening of the labor market for “knowledge workers.” In his free time, he enjoys reading biographies, photography, premier league football, and poker.

Brayant De Leon
CO-FOUNDER AND PRESIDENT
Brayant is a fourth-year and concurrent Master’s student studying economics and applied math at the University of Chicago. He is co-founder of the Chicago chapter of CREL. His past research experiences include working for the Joint Initiative for Latin American Experimental Economics, Harris School of Public Policy, and Becker Friedman Institute for Economics. He is interested in applied econometrics with emphasis on the economics of education and social inequality. Apart from research, Brayant enjoys rock climbing and going to metal concerts.

Utkarsh Dandanayak

Utkarsh is a fourth-year at the University of Chicago studying Economics. He is predominantly interested in experimental and development economics. His research experience includes research assistantships at the Development Innovation Lab, the Normal Lab, and the Becker Friedman Institute for Economics. He also enjoys reading, playing the drums, and watching sports.

Ria is a third-year at the University of Chicago from San Francisco, California studying economics and data science. She has worked as a research assistant for the Roman Family Center for Decision Research at the Booth School of Business. In her free time, she enjoys trying new restaurants, attending concerts, and watching college basketball.

Sasha (Aleksandr) Popov
PROJECT LEAD
Aleksandr is a third year at the University of Chicago studying Economics and Mathematics, with a minor in Computer Science. His past experiences range from algorithmic trading research to working in a VC fund and founding his own startup. His research interests include development economics and monetary policy. Outside of CREL, Aleksandr enjoys mountain climbing, playing the classical guitar, and debating geopolitics

Thomas is a fourth-year BA/MA with the MAPSS program in economics at the University of Chicago. He has gained experience working on economics research teams in both academia and the private sector. His research interests are experimental economics, econometrics, and optimal policy design/implementation. In his free time, he enjoys reading fantasy, playing card games, and engaging in any form of debate.
